Professional Counseling

FOR COUPLES:

GROWING APART? GROW CLOSER!

Nice idea, but how? It is important to work explore different levels for each couple. One level is fairly obvious, and thought related, like communication skills, understanding how each other thinks, developing respect and trust, and conflict resolution.

Jan L Ross, MA, LPCAnother level is a bit deeper. It answers the “why, when, where and how” questions. When did it start, why am I thinking this way or doing that, where or when will it end and how can we restore love and sexual intimacy again.

Jan gathers this information by getting to know you through your history. Then we work together, usually one session per week.

What if my partner won’t come with me? Come in. We’ll develop a strategy.

So how long will it take? You are the ones who decide if you’re where you want to be. If you’re not getting there, tell me. If you’re finished, tell me. If you want more, tell me! But as a rule of thumb, the longer something has been around in a relationship and the more trauma there is, the more time it will take to resolve it.

FOR INDIVIDUALS:

I’M WANTING PERSONAL HELP

Jan L Ross, MA, LPC-EMOTIONS
Last I checked, we all have them! Good! Sometimes they’re buried, sometimes they’re expressed in ways we wish we wouldn’t, and sometimes we just don’t know why we’re feeling the way we do: ANXIOUS, DEPRESSED, LONELY, FEARFUL, TRAUMATIZED, ANGRY, STRESSED, HURT, or just plain LOST. We’ll talk about it, discover the sources and bring relief with INSIGHT. And when we’re GRIEVING, support is essential.

-CRISIS
Exceptionally difficult times happen because life doesn’t always go the way we think it will. DIVORCE, DEATH OF A LOVED ONE, PHYSICAL INJURY, TRAUMAS are often a part of life. Sometimes, if traumas were not resolved at the time of occurrence and become apparent later in time, it is important to treat them as POST TRAUMATIC STRESS. Whether crisis or trauma, we’ll work on the immediate concerns and establish a plan of resolution.

-PARENTING
“The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” I firmly believe that. (Spiritual considerations aside.) That’s why I work with parents to help them. I meet with the youth and their parents, but then primarily work with the parents. Other therapists primarily work with the youth or both youth and parents, and those approaches are helpful, depending on what the concerns are. Let’s talk about it and determine the best plan of action.

-SPIRITUAL
Questions about spiritual things are very important! Particularly when there are so many changes and difficult things happening. The Lord is My Shepherd, and He will guide us as we work together.
